This airplane had a normal complement of ten (10). It was flying in the #3 position of the first flight of the second squadron. About 1100 hrs at a point somewhat northwest of Hanover on course, this a/c was heavily hit in an attack made by a total of
twenty-six (26) FW 190 and Me 109's and the No 1 engine caught fire. No 4 engine was feathered and a large section of the right rudder was shot off. Seven parachutes were seen to open by Lt SEILER'S crew approximately five were seen to open by Lt BEANEY'S crew. Eight (8) parachutes were seen in this vicinity at about this time by Lt RIGSBEE'S crew altho they could not identify the plane. The other two (2) crews specifically identified the plane.
